Rahul Mahajan is high on music

Rahul Mahajan is high on music

Rahul Mahajan is on cloud 9 these days with a music video on his Swayamvar on air.

To promote Swayamvar Season 2: Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega, Imagine has released a music video featuring him with a bunch of item girls.

Seasoned with peppy beats, catchy lyrics and tadkedaar latkas-jhatkas, Rahul’ s music video premiered on December 7.

All the naach-gaana-bajaana that adds to the wedding flavour has been kept alive by choreographer Devang Desai, said Imagine’s official website.

Talking about his experience, Rahul said, “I am extremely honoured to have a music video made in my name and I thank Imagine for this. I never ever thought I would be dancing on screen with a bunch of beautiful talented ladies and that too for a music video!”

“This entirely new and innovative approach by the channel caught my interest and I am very excited to be a part of it,” he added.

Raveena is Rahul Mahajan's didi

Raveena is Rahul Mahajan's didi

Rahul Mahajan's 'Rahul Dulhaniya Le Layenge' not only will help him get a bride but has actually landed him with a sister, even before the show starts.Raveena Tandon will perform the role of the didi. Raveena is being paid a whopping figure to lend her moral support to Rahul Mahajan and his quest for the perfect bride.

The TV channel has roped in Raveena to play Rahul Mahajan's sister.Ravi Kisen, who played Rakhi Sawant's brother, in 'Rakhi ka Swayamwar' ended up hosting another show on the channel, Raaz Pichle Janam Ka.

Raveena was last seen as a judge on two children'shows. For the current show, with five lakhs for being didi to Rahul Mahajan, she will be the world's best sister.

"Raveena has asked for a whopping Rs 30 lakh and the channel is offering her Rs 25 lakh for the episode," says a source. "She normally charges around Rs 8 lakh an episode if it is a running show."

Shailaja Kejriwal, EVP Content of the channel confirmed that talks are on with her at the moment, but nothing is confirmed yet.

And if she has her way, she would be the highest paid actress on TV. Incidentally, Bipasha Basu who is going to be seen on a show produced by Red Chillies, has also asked for a similar amount and is being paid less than what she has asked for.

What makes Rahul Mahajan a hot bachelor ?

What makes Rahul Mahajan a hot bachelor ?

The last time Rahul Mahajan got married was a little similar in some ways to this time – the whole country was talking about it but no one was sure what kind of groom Rahul was going to turn out to be.

The difference now is that Rahul then was big news, but just news. This time, he’s the best kind of celebrity there is – the kind that’s famous just for being famous, the kind who might be loved or hated, but is always, always watched.

The son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan has redefined celebrityhood in India in some ways – he’s never been in the news, really, for anything good. He came into the limelight three years ago, at age 31, when his father was shot dead by his uncle Pravin Mahajan. For about a month, Rahul was seen as a sort of Rajiv Gandhi redux – the responsible, grieving son, the potential inheritor of his father’s political legacy. But he shattered that when he and Pramod Mahajan’s secretary Bibek Maitra were rushed, unconscious, to a hospital in Delhi after an alleged drug and alcohol overdose. Rahul was released from hospital amid a swirling controversy after Maitra died. He was arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of drug possession and use.

After this spectacular entry into fame, Rahul rushed into an equally suspicious wedding with ‘childhood sweetheart’ and fellow pilot Shweta Singh, with everyone wondering why. After all, the dulha was fresh from his father’s demise and a drug abuse controversy. But maybe he’d sown his wild oats and learnt from tragedy.

But Rahul, it seems, is to the camera born. Scandalous rumours emerged soon after his marriage, despite occasional half-hearted denials from Rahul and complete silence from Shweta. He was allegedly beating her up, reports said. Barely a year and a half after the wedding, Shweta filed for divorce, which was granted in 2008. A few months after that, Rahul was chosen as part of a bunch of brash loudmouths and wannabes to be part of Bigg Boss 2. Rahul romanced two girls on the show, most famously ex-gangster’s moll Monica Bedi. Bigg Boss 2 ended but everyone remembers Rahul’s exit, when he broke out of the house with three remaining male inmates and chose a voluntary exit from the show after refusing to apologise for the incident.

With the show, Rahul discovered his love for notoriety. But if the number of applications for his swayamvar equivalent on TV, Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega, is any indication to go by, drug abuse, wife beating, a messy divorce, and the lack of a bona fide job are no deterrents for marriageable girls. In fact, the show hasn’t even started, but Rahul’s begun to prove that he’s born to living out a controversial life on national television – he’s had the show dates shifted by a month on the advice of his astrologer after having the 16 shortlisted girls’ kundalis matched with his. Apparently, Rahul is serious about finding his one true love and getting married again, and he’s turned superstitious at the prospect. “A lot has happened with me in the last three years. Today is the start of a new chapter of my life a new beginning,” he said, announcing the show.

Rahul Mahajan pushes back Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega

Rahul Mahajan pushes back Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega

Rahul Mahajan is apparently very serious about his upcoming swayamvar which is to be aired on NDTV Imagine.

Nikhil Madhok, VP, Marketing and Communication NDTV Imagine says "Rahul, son of slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan has asked for kundalis of all the 16 finalists to be matched with him so that there are no complications later while he chooses one of te as his better-half. Rahul has even got the launch date of his show, Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega postponed in order to schedule the final on an auspicious date as fixed by his astrologer," added the channel official.

But Nikhil got defensive when asked whether Rahul would also do a Rakhi Sawant and go back on the wedding promise. "Rakhi too wanted to get married to Elesh, but as you saw on Pati Patni aur Woh, differences arose between the couple. Rahul is a different person and he will surely follow his heart." He also tried to justify having such colorful personalities on the show by saying no other "single" celeb is willing to get married on national television as the format demands".

Let us hope that Rahul at least for the sake of Imagine, does find his Dulhaniya, else the channel will face a lot of embarrassing questions, a second time around.

Perfect Brides are actors

Perfect Brides are actors

Rahul Mahajan is gearing up for his swayamwar on TV. On all counts, he’s not the most eligible bachelor around!

But, after the response Rakhi Sawant’s swayamwar got, the channel quickly decided to go into Season 2 and chose the controversial Rahul for this.

But are these shows for real? That’s the one question audiences are asking. Will Rakhi and Elesh Parujanwala actually tie the knot or have the viewers simply being taken for a ride? Well, even if the duo part ways, who’s to question, in any case!

The show’s over, isn’t it?
Whatever the reality of our reality shows, the fact is that marriage has become big business on TV today. Television rating points (TRPs) zoom during shaadi episodes even in serials. No wonder long elaborate wedding sequences are the order of the day. Channels too don’t mind spending heavily because they see the returns in the form of TRPs!

Seeing the trend, reality shows (Vivah, Perfect Bride and now Rahul Ka Swayamwar) too have decided to cash in on the wedding mania.

The institution of marriage clearly is commercialised and almost becoming a joke, feel many. Recently on a television channel it was revealed that Perfect Bride contestants were struggling actresses. In fact one of them, Priyanka Sharma, is a model and has briefly been a telly anchor and also acted in a movie.

Telly audiences, especially reality show buffs, are naturally agitated. “Reality shows should not play with people’s sentiments. It’s supposed to be reality, right? There has to be some amount of truth in it,” says Nikita Kocchar, a housewife.

TV host and producer Kanchan Adhikari too is alarmed at some of the reality shows of today, especially the ‘shaadi’ related ones. “It’s ridiculous. No doubt channels are competing with each other for TRPs, but they must keep public sentiment in mind. Reality shows should promote talent rather than make a mockery of institutions like marriage. There’s also a show where unmarried couples are raising kids. What are we heading towards?”

However, some feel reality shows, just like everything else on TV, should be taken with a pinch of salt. Says producer Manish Goswami, “Viewers should not analyse things. After a show is over they should not wonder if the the two participants will actually tie the knot or not. When the viewer has expectations then there are disappointments! Hence they should just enjoy the show.”

And what do TRP experts have to say? “Marriage as the basis of a show is not a sure shot formula for success,” points out a spokesperson for TAM, an organisation that measures Indian TV viewing habits. “One has to create the grandeur and aura and also there’s got to be the marketing and promotional boost. Only then will it work and yes, it has worked for some of shows.” He further adds, “The intelligent Indian viewer knows what he wants. It doesn’t take him more than a second to make a choice.”

I won't marry a buffalo: Rahul Mahajan

I won't marry a buffalo: Rahul Mahajan

Rahul Mahajan's reference to cattle comes on this week's Star Trek in the run-up to the launch of his reality bridal hunt on television, Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega. Speaking to Headlines Today's Entertainment Editor Anna M.M. Vetticad, Rahul discusses RDLJ, his career plans, the allegations of physical abuse by his first wife and the perils of being in the spotlight.

Asked how he knows that the girls applying to participate in RDLJ are sincere in their wish to marry him, and are not using his show as a platform to enter the entertainment industry, he replies: "I've got to have the faith. There's a selection procedure. Why have negative thoughts? Why not think that this may end up being a great swayamvar?"

Rahul insists that the culmination of RDLJ will be marriage, and that he's not taking the audience for a ride the way many viewers believe Rakhi Sawant did with her television swayamvar. Remember Rakhi dumped her chosen man soon after the show?

On a more serious note, Rahul also responds to questions about the allegations of physical abuse made against him by his first wife. But what will he do when parents of prospective brides ask him personal questions - about his first marriage, about his drug problems etc - on RDLJ? "They can ask me anything," he replies. "I will answer all questions except about matters that are sub judice."

Rahul seriously looking for Mrs Mahajan

Rahul seriously looking for Mrs Mahajan

Unlike Rakhi Sawant, who made a joke of her swayamvar on a reality show, Rahul Mahajan is extremely serious about getting married again.

He is taking utmost interest in all the girls who audition for the reality show, Rahul Dulhaniyaa Le Jayega, through which he is slated to marry the winner. He approves and rejects girls, and the channel accordingly alters the list of contenders.

Our source revealed, “Rahul told the channel that he would like to be present at the auditions. However, this was not easy as the auditions are held in different cities. To this, Rahul made it very clear that he will still like to see all the girls, and so, he frequently visits the channel’s office to view the audition tapes.”

Shailaja Kejriwal, the EVP content of the channel, said, “Yes, Rahul does see each and every girl who has come for auditions on the tapes. He judges them by their looks. But what’s he’s also concerned about is whether she comes across as a genuine person or not. If he doesn’t like a particular girl, her name is struck off the list. Rahul is very cautious that the girls who apply don’t do so just to use the show to gain publicity. The casting agency questions the girls about their intentions to participate in a show of such nature.”

But what if Rahul decides to pull a Rakhi and change his mind, thus turning the swayamvar into a joke? “Rakhi and Rahul are two different people. It would be unfair to put them in the same bracket,” Shailaja said.

A friend of Mahahjan added, “Audition dekh kar kafi kuch pata chal jata hai ki ladki kaisi hogi. Dulhan wohi banegi who deserves to be Mrs Mahajan.”

'Kissa Kundali Ka' for Rahul Mahajan

'Kissa Kundali Ka' for Rahul Mahajan

Now that he’s opted for a swayamvar, Rahul Mahajan is leaving no stone unturned to find his perfect bride.

Well, news has it that Mahajan is not only taking keen interest in the auditioning brides, but the groom-to-be wants to get the stars right too. So, he's been asking for kundalis (horoscope) of the girls.

A source closely associated with the show informs, "Rahul had endured a bad marriage which ended in a bitter divorce. Unlike Rakhi Sawant, Mahajan is taking his swayamvar very seriously. The 34-year-old knows that this is his last chance to get married. He's been looking at the tapes of the girls and striking out the ones who don't interest him. His family has asked for the kundalis of the girls. He wants to ensure that he finds the right partner."

Rahul dulhaniya le jayenge is slated to launch during December end. There is little difference this time. "Unlike Rakhi ka swayamvar which had selected 16 grooms, Rahul dulhaniya le jayenge will feature 12 or 13 contestants. However, the show will run for two and half months this time as opposed to the 40 days of Rakhi ka swayamvar," the source adds.

Ram Kapoor to host 'Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'

Kapoor confirmed the news to us via a text message saying that he will host Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.

'Rakhi Ka Swayamvar' proved to be a tremendous success. So, it's only right that the show's makers continue with the same team.

Rahul dulhaniya le jayenge is expected to launch in December 2009.

Women prisoners keen to join Rahul Mahajan's reality show

Women prisoners keen to join Rahul Mahajan's reality show

Nine women prisoners of the local central jail are eager to become prospective brides of Rahul Mahajan in the TV reality show 'Rahul Dulhania Le Jaayega' and have started wearing lipsticks to look 'attractive and beautiful' for this upcoming event.

"These nine prisoners, including convicts and undertrials, have moved applications, seeking permission to participate in the TV Swayamvar show of Rahul, son of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, in which he is proposed to choose his better-half," Bhopal Central Jail superintendent PD Somkunwar told PTI today.

He had sent these prisoners applications to the Jail Headquarters, adding that the pleas of undertrails will be decided by the court while that of convicts will be looked into by the Headquarters, Somkumar said.

These women are very much interested to take part in the TV show, adding that they after moving applications have started wearing lipsticks, Somkunwar said.

The way these women are dressing to look attractive and beautiful for the show has surprised other prisoners, he said.

Some women prisoners are laughing and teasing these women inmates eager to participate in the show, Somkunwar said."I am not opposed to the aspirations of these women and wants to see them happy. Even they are human beings and have all the rights to be happy," Somkumar said.

About their fascination to worldly life, he said these women have been very much impressed by former Bollywood actress Monica Bedi's living style, who had been in the Central Jail here.

Monica allegedly close to underworld don Abu Saleem had been in the central jail here in connection with the fake passport case.

Some of these women who had sought permission to participate in the show include, Preeti, 32, - a convict in NDPS case, Bhagwati, 18, - an undertrial in a dowry case, Seema, 25, - convict in a murder case and Sunita, 30, - an undertrial in a drug case, an official said.

These women are heard in the jail premises as saying that they will be a perfect match for Rahul and as husband-wife they can understand each other better given he too had been in jail in some drug case, they added.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh additional inspector general of jail A Khare said that these women will not be granted permission to take part in 'Rahul Dulhania Le Jaayega', adding that they will go by the rule book in this regard.

Rahul Mahajan beats Rakhi at swayamvar

Rahul Mahajan, has surpassed the popularity of item girl Rakhi Sawant as he has received 40 percent more entries than her for his televised 'swayamvar'.

Mahajan, who has decided to find his life partner through NDTV Imagine's reality show "Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega", has received 16,755 entries via phone, email and SMS, said a press release from the channel. "I am happy with the response and I'm looking forward to finding my life partner with whom I can begin a new journey," said Rahul .

From professionals like doctors and engineers to students and artists, women from all walks of life within the age-group of 22 to 26 years have sent in their profiles with the hope to win this 34-year-old's heart. The entries closed Wednesday. Delhi girls have topped the list with 5,063 entries followed by Mumbai, from where 4,188 entries have been registered. Entries from cities like Kolkata, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Nagpur and Ahmedabad poured in. NRI girls from Dubai, London and US too sent in their profiles.

The show, likely to go on air in November, will search for an ideal bride for Rahul. This will be done with a nationwide audition process followed by multi-city meetings and interviews with shortlisted participants. This would be a second marriage for Rahul, who became a known name in the entertainment sector post reality show "Bigg Boss 2".

He was earlier married to Shweta with whom he tied the knot in 2006 but parted ways with her last year.

Mujhse Shaadi Karogi ? , says Rahul Mahajan

Mujhse Shaadi Karogi ? , says Rahul Mahajan

Post ‘Rakhi Ka Swayamvar’, the TV channels know what clicks with the audience and what is required for high TRPs. Now, the second edition of the show is set to roll and it’s called ‘Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge’. The small screen’s bad boy Rahul Mahajan is going to select an ideal wife in a new reality show that is going to hit your TV screens by December.

Does that mean Payal Rohatgi and Monica Bedi will also be part of the show? We don’t know, but yes, Rahul’s ex wife Shweta Singh, a pilot by profession, does have an answer to this. She is quoted by a daily as saying, “I don’t give a damn”. Rahul and Shweta divorced after just 15 months of their marriage over the allegations that he used to beat her.

So, after a stormy, unsuccessful marriage and earning big bad name with ‘Bigg Boss 2’ and not to forget the famous 2006 drug scandal, the Mahajan scion is pretty sure that he needs a life partner and is looking for a lost connection. He needs a wife, who can “connect emotionally” with him, as revealed in media reports.

According to the show format, there will be 16 contenders vying to marry Rahul. Now, the question is, who would want to marry him?

Kaun banega Mrs. Mahajan

Kaun banega Mrs. Mahajan

After the great success of Rakhi Ka Swayamwar, NDTV Imagine is planning to start with the second season of the show with Rahul Mahajan. The hunt for the girls has already started.

“Yes the buzz is true, as the channel has already started its hunt for the perfect 16 girls who are willing to become Mrs. Mahajan.”

“Channel has been in talks with Rahul since a long time. If the production sources are to be believed, Rahul has agreed to be a part of the show too.”

“Though again in the second season its not sure whether Rahul will be getting married on television or not, but it’s for sure that channel is aiming to earn big bucks with the second season,” concludes the source.

It seems now the channel wants to fool the junta again by promising a full entertainment show with all masala and controversies. One thing to wait and watch is whether, Payal Rohatgi and Monica Bedi will vouch for the swayamvadhu ?

Get ready for another drama by the reality controversy king of television!

Rahul to find life partner on TV show like Rakhi Sawant

Rahul to find life partner on TV show like Rakhi Sawant

After Rakhi Sawant, it's Rahul Mahajan's turn to have a television swayamvar . The man who courted controversies before becoming the star of reality show Bigg Boss 2 last year will hunt for a suitable bride on NDTV Imagine's upcoming show Rahul Ki Swayamvadhu.

"The format of the show will be the same as that of Rakhi Ka Swayamvar . Registration of female aspirants will officially begin from September 23 and the show will go on air in the beginning of next year," says a channel source.

When the channel floated the idea of a male celebrity going bride hunting on reality TV, two names were considered - Mahajan's and Bhangra popper Mika's. Finally, the channel decided on Mahajan.

"Rahul Mahajan has emerged as an interesting person. His tryst with 20 girls in the context of marriage will be interesting," reasons the source.

NDTV Imagine has a lot at stake on Rahul Ki Swayamvadhu, since Rakhi Ka Swayamvar garnered maximum TRPs for the channel since it was launched three years ago.

The Swayamvadhu show has already started attracting participants.

"Inquiries have started to flow in from across the world. Many NRI girls are trying to get into the show, too," adds the source.

There is a buzz that Mahajan's Bigg Boss 2 co-contestant Monica Bedi could be a contender. The channel has refused to confirm the news.

The final episode of Rakhi Ka Swayamvar had received a TRP of 10.1, which is among the highest in recent times.

Rahul, son of slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, has hit headlines in the past over charges of drug abuse and a stormy marriage and divorce with pilot Shweta Singh.

It's Rahul Mahajan's Swayamvar on Imagine

Rahul Mahajan has given his nod for his Swayamvar on NDTV Imagine, and he will be seen as the prospective 'Dulha' in December 2009.

Ever since NDTV Imagine successfully hosted the Swayamvar of Rakhi Sawant on National Television, the buzz has been that the next swayamvar on the channel would be of Rahul Mahajan.

"Rahul Mahajan has finally confirmed that he will go ahead and choose his life partner thro' the swayamvar conducted by the channel. Authorities of Imagine are now busy planning the next swayamvar, and if all goes well we will see Rahul Mahajan becoming the Dulha in December 2009".

Rahul Mahajan who was part of Bigg Boss last year earned the title of being the 'Kishan Kanhaiya' of the house!! Going by this, it looks as though the groom in offer is going to have a gala time dealing with the girls who come to seek his love…

Now Rahul Mahajan has a Swayamvar

Now Rahul Mahajan has a Swayamvar

After the huge success of Rakhi Sawant Ka Swayamvar, NDTV Imagine is launching its second season with Rahul Mahajan .

Rahul, who became a household name after his stint in Bigg Boss 2, signed on the dotted line two days ago.

The prospective brides will be introduced to the media next week.

The show is likely to go on air in December.

Son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan , Rahul was married to Shweta Mahajan, whom he dated for a year. Unfortunately, the marriage lasted 15 months only. Shweta filed for divorce in 2007.

NDTV Imagine hopes to cash in on Rahul's fame, post Bigg Boss. The channel heads feel he can do wonders for the show, just like Rakhi did.
